Third BJJ INTENSIVE TRAINING CAMP
Lignano/Udine – ITALY
25th – 28th of May 2017
Lignano/Udine/Italy
Back home after an amazing time in Lignano, I am very excited to write about my impressions on this camp.
Going to Italy could be a challenge. Because of a traffic jam on the border from Austria to Italy it took us 1,5 hours more than planned. But when we made it, we saw the beauty of this place. The Getur Village is right on the beach. From the Hotel you only have to walk 5min to the water and you see Lignano´s beach with all its sand, umbrellas and nice water. The water was already around 18 degrees… so for me this was still too cold but a lot of brave people of the group already jumped into the water.
To the gym we had to walk 10 minutes. Was not long but could be a pain in the ass if you forgot your belt or your gi in the room. For next year the big room above the swimming pool right across our Hotel Sole Mare is already reserved (10. – 13. May 2018!!!)
Training with around 70 people on the mat is a great feeling. Feeling part of a bigger group, learning new techniques and rolling with new friends is really what made this camp great. We are not all from the same team, but on this camp flags, logos and groups did not matter. The Professors were there to help everybody.
Always three classes went on at the same time with around 20 people per class. Most of the time we had one beginners class with gi, one advanced gi class and one special class for nogi, takedowns or self-defense. So people could choose between the classes and their interests. I liked the situation that also people who are only training NoGi or for MMA had always one class for them.
These are the instructors of the Camp. We could learn from all their different games and experiences.
- Renato Migliaccio – BJJ, Wrestling, MMA
- Martin Guggi – BJJ, NoGi, Ginastica Natural
- Hans Hutton – BJJ, Luta Livre, Self defense
- Carlos Maia – BJJ, NoGi
- Bill Loftus – BJJ, NoGi Wrestling
- Franjo Artukovic – BJJ, NoGI
- Dominik Artukovic – BJJ, NoGI
- Rick Hunley – BJJ, Wrestling
- Peter Versovsek – BJJ, NoGi
- Mario Hudelist – BJJ,NoGi
- Bert Obernosterer – NoGi, Luta Livre, Leglocks
- Wolfgang Michor – Judo
I can only speak for myself but it was great to see how much people improved from the last camp we had in August in Klagenfurt/Austria. Rolling with the same guys again you could feel the improvements most of them had made in the month in between the camps.
One highlight for me was also the Q&A. Everybody could ask any question about any BJJ related problem. Some questions where really interesting and it was good to hear that some guys have the same problems I am facing too. The instructors where nice and took time to answer all questions and explaining their view on these specific problems.
The regular schedule was 2 houres with 2 classes in the morning, 2 classes in the afternoon and always 3 instructors teaching at the same time. One afternoon was free and all had some time to enjoy the sun, the beach and relax a little bit. But if you wanted to train, the gym was always open. I think it is good to have these options to choose.

END – next camp is going to be from 26th to 29th of October 2017/Klagenfurt at the lake |
After the morning session there was always 30 minutes time for sparring and in the evening up to 1 hour. People could arrange their schedule for themselves. Go to eat whenever they want. If they did not want to eat in the hotel they could walk to the center of lignano – 15min walk – and find a nice restaurant there.
I also liked that the focus of the BJJ intensive CAMPS is training BJJ and learning. Of course if you want to party and go out at night there is also this possibility for you, but the main focus is improving BJJ. This is not a preparation camp for a competion but a camp to improve your game and bring it to the next level.
Gratulations to all new Black Belts who got promoted at the camp:
Prof. Mario Hudelist
Prof. Bert Obernosterer
Prof. Jean Francois Verdoncq
Prof. Emanuel de la Silva
I am looking forward to the next camp. This year there is one more in Austria/Klagenfurt 26. – 29. October 2017 and then next year the BJJ intensive Camp is going to be in Italy,Lignano ath the same spot again: 10. – 13. May 2018.
